Associate, Annie Wills, has written a letter to the Editor of EuroChoices about the UK government's response to the consultation on Biodiversity Net Gain ('BNG') that was held last year.
The new requirements come into force in November 2023, meaning that developers must show at least a 10% increase in biodiversity for each development.
Annie writes about some of the practical implications that need to be considered, such as:
- How will the proposed use of the land affect other payments which are already being received?
- Might the site be needed to offset any possible future developments elsewhere on the landowner's property?
- Will there be any unintended tax implications?
